MUMBAI: The city police on Friday asked the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to conduct their Saturday’s public rally, to be addressed by party leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, indoors. Zonal DCP, S Jaykumar, said, “We have asked the party to conduct the programme indoors to avoid any law and order problem.”
Sohail Ahmed, one of the organisers of the rally, said, “Now we looking for an auditorium and will cut down on the number of audience as the seats will be limited.
But we will go ahead with the meeting.” AIMIM had published ads in Urdu dailies about Owaisi’s talk.
“After winning 2 MLA seats in Mumbai, Akbar bhai wanted to meet the voters personally and thank them. We had sought permission, but the police said we cannot conduct the programme at Nagpada junction,” said Pathan. He added that the party had already paid money to BMC for the programme.
