Indian Coast Guard rescues 5 fishermen from flooded vessel off Dahanu coast
MUMBAI: The Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman swiftly launched Chetak helicopter in an SOS received about flooding onboard the fishing vessel Bhakti Sai with five crews on it near Umargam Light in Dahanu. The fishing boat, which was transiting from Karanja near Mumbai to Daman for repairs, ran aground on rocks off Dahanu. The operation lasted hardly one hour and the ICG helicopter airlifted all the crews and brought them to safety.
An ICG spokesperson said on Tuesday at 4.50 pm, the ICG received an alert from the Daman Police Control Room regarding a flooding incident onboard the fishing vessel Bhakti Sai, in position Umargam Light 06 with 05 crew onboard. The fishing boat, which was transiting from Karanja near Mumbai to Daman for repairs, ran aground on rocks off Dahanu. The flooding was caused by damage due to the impact and subsequent water ingress.
In response, ICG Air Station Daman swiftly launched Chetak helicopter at 5.32 pm to rescue the five crew members in distress. “By 5.45 pm, the helicopter had reached the datum, successfully airlifting three crew members and safely disembarking them at Bordi Beach, where ICG Station Dahanu team provided immediate ground support and first aid,” said the ICG spokesperson.
The official said the helicopter then returned to the vessel to retrieve the remaining two crew members, who were safely shifted to the Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman. Upon arrival, the station’s medical team provided further first aid before the rescued individuals were handed over to local authorities for additional care and support.
