Testing at Mumbai

Several coronavirus testing booths are being operated at various parts of Mumbai to make sure that people get themselves tested if they experience symptoms or are exposed to a COVID-positive patient. Medical and frontline staff have been working for hours at the end to test people and chase the virus in the city. Photo: ANI

Increase testing: BMC

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal has asked the civic body workers to increase testing in Mumbai in order to nip the virus from the bud. He has asked healthcare workers to conduct at least 40,000 tests daily in the city. Mumbai has been witnessing a downward trend in the number of coronavirus cases daily after witnessing a spike of over 11,000 cases in the second week of April. Photo: ANI

Mumbai CP visits BKC centre

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale on Thursday paid a visit to the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Jumbo vaccination centre to inspect the arrangements made for the beneficiaries over there. Only a day ago, a stampede-like situation was averted at the centre after people crowded outside and jumped the barricades to get the vaccine.

Post-jab observation

Once the COVID-19 vaccine is administered, beneficiaries are asked to wait in an observation room for some time, in case they experience some immediate side effects. Their blood pressure, temperature and oxygen levels are also tested during the time, post which they are allowed to go home.

Hotel-turned-isolation centre

The BMC has turned a plush hotel in the city into an isolation centre for asymptomatic police personnel and their family members. Living in tiny cramped quarters where home quarantine would mean a risk of infecting other family members as well, these personnel can now stay in the hotel reserved for them by the department in Goregaon. If their spouse or child is positive, they can stay with the policemen as well. The BMC has allotted six doctors for this hotel-turned-isolation centre and medicines, immunity boosters and meals will be provided free of cost. Each room is double occupancy. Four COVID-positive personnel have checked in so far. There are a total of 90 rooms in the hotel.

Andheri's 'oxygen langar'

The Hemkunt Foundation has started an 'oxygen langar' in Shree Gurunanak Darbar Gurudwara at Sher-E- Punjab colony in Andheri. Here, the workers provide free oxygen to those who have tested positive for coronavirus but cannot find oxygen or afford it amid the acute shortage of the life saving gas. Photo by Raju Shinde/TIL

Work in progress

Even as lockdown-like restrictions have been imposed in Mumbai, daily wagers have been carrying out their work relentlessly so that no inconvenience is caused to Mumbaikars. On Thursday, a worker was spotted quenching his thirst while digging a trench for electric cables near Vikhroli. Photo by Sanjay Hadkar/BCCL
