MUMBAI: The IIT-Bombay has signed an agreement with Jindal Stainless to establish a chair professorship at the institute. This chair will support and enhance research in industrial processes and product technologies in the stainless steel space. An existing senior professor of IITB, with a sharp track record in research, will be appointed to this chair.
The first chair professor will be selected from the institute’s department of metallurgical engineering and materials science.
This partnership will promote research and innovation in industrial processes, product technologies and cost improvement for the stainless steel sector.
“The idea was seeded in the conversations I would have with new recruits every year. I would ask them how many hours did they spend on stainless steel in their engineering programme and on an average most said, two hours,” said managing director of Jindal Stainless Abhyuday Jindal. “With this partnership, we have deepened our industry-academia collaboration with the larger purpose of building a corrosion-free India.”
