MUMBAI: A day after the state recorded its lowest higher secondary certificate (
HSC
) pass percentage in six years, hundreds of students and parents queued at the divisional board office in
Vashi
to apply for verification of marks or photocopies of answer sheets though the process is online. The chaos forced the board to start accepting offline applications for both the the processes, as well as re-evaluation. Officials also sought Vashi police’s help to control the crowd.
However, by the time students receive their revised results, the admission season would be well underway and students fear the changed scores would make little difference to their prospects. “We want the board to give us a definite date for reevaluation of results. Students have decided that if they do not get the desired results, they will protest,” said Channdan Dawra, a parent who had come to speak to board officials at Vashi along with a few others.
A board official said while they do not have a definite timeline, the board will process requests at the earliest to ensure students benefit during admissions.
Until Wednesday evening, the Mumbai division, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, had got more than 750 online applications for photocopies. “The demand has been extremely high. Apart from online applications, by late afternoon, we were forced to set up two counters at our office and accept applications offline too. We had planned to accept applications online only, but will continue to allow students to apply offline too,” said Sharad Khandagale, secretary of the state board’s Mumbai division.
