MUMBAI: A 4-year-old boy died after he was knocked down by an SUV at Wadala Saturday evening. The SUV driver, a 19-year-old man, had been detained by the police, and was being interrogated till the time of going to press.

The child was declared ‘brought dead' at KEM Hospital, Parel.

The child, Ayush Laxman Kinwade, lived with his grandmother on the footpath near Ambedkar College.

The boy's father works for a contractor who deals in mandap decoration.

The police said that they would collect the blood sample of the SUV driver, Bhushan Gole, a Vile Parle resident, to ascertain if he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

A case has been registered at RAK Marg police station.
