MUMBAI: The student crowd at

St Xavier’s College

eagerly grooved to the tunes of local Hindi rapper Vivian Fernandes, better known as Divine, and his troupe who performed at the second day of the college festival Malhar.

Despite unexpected showers early in the day, interactive workshops and cultural competitions progressed as per schedule on Sunday with crowds migrating towards western dance and Indian band performances by college groups. The day itself featured a heartfelt performance from Mann, an NGO dedicated to helping children and adults with special needs such as autism and intellectual disabilities. The group took stage amid dramatic performances and danced to the Amitabh Bachchan song “Jhumma Chumma De de” with broad smiles across each face.

Interactive workshops included one on capoeira, a Brazilian rhythmic martial-art form, which invited participants to dance and sing along.

Through all this, Divine’s performance, which concluded the day, remained the murmur of the masses. The

took stage as dusk settled in and engrossed the crowd with popular numbers such as “Scene kya hai”, which has been performed in collaboration with the producer

Nucleya

, and “Yeh Mera Bombay”.

The crowd occupying the first quadrangle of St Xavier’s danced to the resonating beat of the kick drum and mirrored the psychedelic flickering of multicolored lights. The festival concludes tomorrow with several inter-collegiate competitions featuring in the line-up.
