MUMBAI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) probing the arrest of a 74-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh for smuggling 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 40 crore from Addis Ababa on Friday arrested two more persons, including a Nigerian national.
The DRI on Thursday arrested Nigerian national Chidiebere Kingsley Nawchara and Nagaland's Hekatoli Sumi for aiding and abetting the main accused in smuggling drugs. On Tuesday, the DRI had arrested Damodara Rama Prasad Dubey who had arrived by Ethiopian Airlines at Mumbai International airport. The checking of his baggage resulted in the recovery of 5 kg of heroin which was cleverly hidden to evade detection.
During investigations, the DRI summoned Sumi who was supposed to collect the bag from Damodara on behalf of Chidiebere. "There were WhatsApp messages between Hekatoli and Chidiebere hence both were placed under arrest," said DRI's special public prosecutor Amit Munde while seeking their custody.
