MUMBAI: A gym trainer was rescued from the Airoli creek Thursday afternoon, three days after being at sea. “It’s a miracle that my son is alive after being stranded in the water for three days. A video of Dharav (36) ‘assaulting’ a gym mate, Yogesh Shinde, at a gym mid-July had gone viral, and a police case registered against him.
“After the video went viral, my son was upset,” said Mahindra. On Aug 5, Dharav left home on his bike, but did not return. After looking for him, the family lodged a missing person’s complaint at Navghar police station, Mulund.
The police found a bike, registered in the name of Mahindra, near Airoli bridge and informed the family. The police expressed suspicion that Dharav had jumped into the creek. Mahindra, with the police, firemen and fishermen team on a boat to look for Dharav, but he was not found.
“During this period, we were called to several places whenever some unclaimed body of similar description and height to my son was found,” added Mahindra.
On Thursday, while two constables, Mahindra, and a boatman were searching for Dharav, they heard someone crying, ‘Help me’. “We went in the direction of the sound. I recognised my son. He was stuck in the mangroves. He had gone weak with no water or food for three days. The cops also had tears in their eyes. He was admitted to hospital and is at home now,” said Mahindra. He said his son left home as he was depressed after the video that went viral.
