Govt reduces security for 25 VVIPs

MUMBAI: The state government has scaled down the security of 25 VVIPs, including Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, former deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde, and former Mumbai police chief Julio Ribeiro.

MUMBAI: The state government on Tuesday scaled down the security of 25 VVIPs, including Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, former deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde, former Mumbai police chief Julio Ribeiro and former deputy municipal commissioner G.R. Khairnar.
The decision has been taken on the basis of a report submitted by chief secretary V. Ranganathan one-and-ahalf years ago.
Mr Ribeiro and Mr Munde’s security has been reduced from the Z-plus to Z, while Lata Mangeshkar and G.R.

Khairnar’s security has been reduced from Z to Y category. The security of Member of Parliament Vijay Darda and state revenue minister Ashok Chavan has also been scaled down.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that film actor Salman Khan has been provided police protection following his complaint that he and his family members were receiving threats from the underworld.
