‘Fruit-sellers’ held for robbery bid in Andheri

MUMBAI: Three robbers who would pose as

fruit-sellers

and conduct a

recce of shops

before targeting them were arrested on Friday.

The trio—Gulab Shaikh (45), Azad Khan (25) and Taufiqullah Khan (27)—had attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Andheri last week but aborted the plan when they spotted a police patrol team. Their luck ran short as their images were captured on a closed-circuit television camera installed nearby.

The accused were arrested on Thursday from Andheri. Four of the gang members are still at large. The gang would visit Mumbai after three-four months and flee with the booty, said he police. The gang members are natives of West Bengal and Jharkhand.
