Mumbai: Chembur Police have arrested four persons for allegedly attempting to sell elephant tusks worth Rs 3.5 crore at a hotel in Chembur. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap at Lodging and Boarding hotel on A.C. Road on Tuesday, the team raided Room No. 304 and caught the accused with two tusks.
The arrested have been identified as Akash Ahir (28), Sandeep Bidlani (33), Shashank Jangam (38), and Dinesh Nivanshi (40). Police said the accused were negotiating a deal when they were apprehended. The tusks, weighing about 11 kg and 20.6 kg, were seized along with other materials. A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
