Four arrested for assaulting cops

Four of the nine accused who ganged up and assaulted a policeman from Ghatkopar police on late Saturday evening were arrested by the Ghatkopar police. The arrested accused have been identified as Sumit Singh 21, Bipin Singh 24, Vikas Upadhya 27 and Siddhart Sampat 30.

MUMBAI: Four of the nine accused who ganged up and assaulted a policeman from Ghatkopar police on late Saturday evening were arrested by the Ghatkopar police. The arrested accused have been identified as Sumit Singh 21, Bipin Singh 24, Vikas Upadhya 27 and Siddhart Sampat 30.
All the accused have been booked under various IPC sections of wrongful assembly, rioting, assault and criminal conspiracy.

The police are looking for five of their accomplices.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone 7) Vinay Rathod said that on Saturday night at around 9.30 pm while police sub inspector Shinde and Bhusan Pawar were patrolling near Haveli bridge area in Ghatkopar west, when they stopped a biker riding with a pillion rider in the no entry zone.
"The policemen who were in plain clothes stopped the biker but biker took up an argument with policemen and within few minutes, they called their friends and assaulted policemen with fist, blows and waist belts despite latter showing their identity cards." said Rathod.
However other police team arrived at the scene of crime and arrested two of them while others manage to flee. Later in midnight police succeeded in arresting two more.
