Fortis Mulund conducts 6th pediatric heart transplant

MUMBAI: Surgeons at Fortis Hospital, Mulund conducted Mumbai’s 6th

pediatric heart transplant

recently to save a 10 year-old boy suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy. The donor was a 21 year- old male who succumbed to injuries suffered during a road traffic accident and was subsequently declared brain dead.

The surgery was successfully conducted by Dr Vijay Agarwal, head of paediatric cardiac surgery. The donor from

Badlapur

died few years after his elder brother met with a similar fate, on the same date. However, the family consented to donate his heart, liver, kidneys, skin and corneas of their kin.
