MUMBAI: A fire broke out on the third floor of a fourth-storey residential building at Khira Nagar area in Mumbai's Santacruz West on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at around 10.40am at Kumkum Building, located on SV Road.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade has classified the blaze as a Level-1 fire, the lowest in the severity scale.
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and began efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building.
Authorities have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
In a separate incident, a fire erupted at Salsette Building No. 27, near New Grade Insta Mill on B.A. Road in Byculla East on February 28. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) classified it as a Level-1 fire.
According to officials, the fire remains confined within the building, and further details are awaited.
In response to the incident, multiple agencies, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BEST, BMC ward staff, and 108 ambulance services, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
In another similar incident, a fire broke out on the terrace of Fairmont Hotel, near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's Terminal 2 in Vile Parle (East) last month. Despite the hotel's proximity to the main runway, flight operations remained unaffected.
Thick, black smoke was visible from Mumbai's air traffic control tower, raising concerns. Firefighters swiftly evacuated around 70-80 people from various floors of the hotel. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by 6.50pm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to the fire brigade, the blaze was confined to the air conditioning unit and exhaust ducting, affecting an area of approximately 1,000-1,500 square feet on the terrace of the three-level basement, ground-plus-10-story building.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated from electrical cables in the fresh air intake and exhaust units. Officials believe a malfunctioning fan in one of the units may have triggered the incident.
