Family seeks Rs 1.5 cr compensation
MUMBAI: More than six months after two of their family members got killed in a tragic mishap at a Palghar resort, the Shahs have approached Delhi Consumer Forum seeking compensation of Rs 1.5 crore.
On April 9,Dahisar-based Sonal Shah (33) and her seven-year-old daughter Hiral were electrocuted while sitting by the swimming pool at the Palghar resort with family friends.

The accident was caused by an electrical leak near the pool.
Sonal's husband Ketan (38) and son Rahul (3) too suffered serious injuries due to electric shocks and had to be hospitalised. Two employees were arrested and following a public outcry, the state snapped electricity supply to the resort.
But on Thursday, the Bombay high court,in an interim order, directed the state to restore power to the resort in eight days, subject to the condition that the resort complies with all safety measures.
In court, the defense advocate for the resort owner Jayantilal Jain, argued that the family had not filed for a claim, even six months after the mishap. Shahs' close family friend and business partner Ambalal Jain rubbished this statement.
"We were grieving but there's no way we are letting the resort owners get away after what they have done to us," Jain told TOI. "Since the Mumbai Consumer Forum does not accept claims above Rs 20 lakh,we had to apply to the Delhi forum."
Jain added that the resort's architect had written to them saying that the swimming pool where the accident occured, was not part of their original plan for the resort. "We are planning to approach the Bombay high court and file an application in the matter. There's no way we are going to give up so soon," he added.
