‘Face 26/11-like terror attack if Seema Haider not sent back’

Mumbai: The security agencies have begun probing a series of WhatsApp messages, sent by an unidentified person to the city traffic police control room threatening a 26/11-type terror attack if Seema Haider, a Pakistani national, was not sent back to Pakistan. Seema, along with her four children, had entered India illegally via Nepal to be with her PUBG friend in Greater Noida in May this year.
The city traffic police has a WhatsApp helpline number for citizens. On Wednesday, at 7 pm around nine to 10 messages appeared on this number. The messages, written in Urdu, were sent by an unidentified person. “If Seema Haider is not sent back, there will be destruction in India,” reads one of the messages.
A police officer said that the messages were sent from a Gulf country, and the security agencies were trying to gather more information about the sender. The security agencies were also investigating if these were hoax messages. One message stated that everyone should be prepared for a 26/11-like attack and that the UP government would be responsible for it.
Seema Haider, who belongs to Sindh province of Pakistan, was arrested on July 4 for illegally entering India without valid travel documents. She told police that she had come to India to be with Sachin Meena (22). She had said that she met Sachin online in 2019 while playing PUBG and the two fell in love. The police had also arrested Sachin and his father for sheltering Seema and her children. All of them were later released on bail. After their release from jail, Seema and her children went to Sachin’s house to stay with his family.
A senior police officer said that the state Anti-terrorism Squad and National Investigation Agency are working on the case of threat messages, and no FIR has been registered in this regard.
