Experimental Mumbai City go down to East Bengal 1-0

Mumbai: Mumbai City FC suffered their second defeat in the Indian Super League when the side laced with development players were beaten 1-0 by East Bengal at the Mumbai Football arena on Sunday.
The result meant little to the hosts who were presented with the ISL League Shield after their final league match. For a team that went on a run of 11 consecutive victories and stayed unbeaten for 18 games, victory would not have altered their fortunes. They finished with 46 points and have already qualified for the knock-out stage. East Bengal are on 19 points with one game left in their bag.
Noarem Mahesh Singh scored the winner for East Bengal in the 52nd minute when a move from right resulted in a smart finish.
Though Mumbai played several players from the development squad, it was still Des Buckingham’s side who were creating the chances and raising the excitement levels of the crowd. Halen Nongtdu hit the post in the first half, Gurkirat Singh’s spectacular side volley was saved by the goalkeeper, Mourtada Fall missed a free header from a corner. Mumbai created plenty of chances but despite several attempts, they just couldn’t score.
