Engineer and wife use AI tools to forge Mumbai AC rail pass, booked
Mumbai: A woman was caught using a forged UTS AC local train season pass generated by her husband with the help of AI tools. The couple has been booked under multiple sections of the BNS. An alert Travelling Ticket Inspector Vishal Navle of Central Railway (CR) busted the fake ticketing attempt in Kalyan–Dadar AC local on Wednesday. The accused Gudiya Sharma (28) showed him a season pass that she was unable to open on the official UTS mobile app. Instead, she displayed a link on a web browser, and the QR code on the pass was non-functional.Navle grew suspicious and sought verification. A check with CR control room revealed the ticket number belonged to an expired pass issued in Feb and was registered under the name of her husband Omkar Sharma (30). The woman was detained and handed over to the GRP at Kalyan.Omkar, an engineer, told police he used his coding skills and AI tools to generate the forged season pass and shared it with his wife, who works as a sales manager with a private bank. Police said the couple may be linked to a wider network involved in fake digital passes. Railway officials praised Navle's vigilance, saying quick detection helped prevent revenue loss and exposed a new modus operandi involving AI-generated fake passes. CR urged commuters to buy tickets only through authorised counters, ATVMs, or the official UTS app, warning that travelling on forged tickets is a serious offence punishable with imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
