MUMBAI: A car driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed his vehicle into a bike injuring two persons, including an electric engineer, in

Fort

area on Sunday night. He was detained and brought to the MRA

Marg

police station. The driver has been issued a notice by the police.

Police said the accident took place at Perin Nariman street in Fort at around 10.30pm. The complainant, Prathmesh Achrekar (33), along with his friend Sandesh

Jadhav

(35), was riding on a bike in the Fort area when a car driven by accused Deepak Kumar dashed into them at a high speed. "The duo fell on the road. While Jadhav sustained injuries on his nose, face and waist, Achrekar had injuries on his hand and left leg," said a policeman.

Police later detained Kumar and his car was also brought to the police station.

The car's number plate suggests it is from a defence forces department. The police have booked the driver for rash and negligent driving, causing grievous hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others under the Indian Penal Code (

IPC

) and also invoked section 184 (driving dangerously) and section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the

Motor Vehicle Act

. Kumar's car will also be examined by RTO personnel to find out if there was any technical fault.

Meanwhile, police have collected Kumar's blood samples for testing and his medical reports are awaited. Statements of the injured and eye witnesses present on the spot at the time of the accident are being recorded, and police will check CCTV footage to find out the sequence of events.
