MUMBAI: A diamond merchant has lodged a complaint against his employee for misappropriating 19 diamonds worth Rs 12 lakh. Though the incident occurred last year, the merchant was awaiting return of the diamonds and an FIR was filed at Dahisar police station on October 3.
The accused worked with the merchant for nine months. Impressed with his know-how of diamond polishing, the merchant rented a unit at Borivli and asked him to work out of it. Ten to 12 daily wagers worked at the same unit polishing diamonds.
In September 2021, the accused told the merchant that a diamond worth Rs 15,000 had got lost. The merchant did not say anything as the cost of the diamonds wasnt much. The same month, the accused told the employer that some more diamonds were missing.
The merchant rushed to the unit with other employees. But 19 diamonds worth Rs 12 lakh were not found. The accused claimed he had looked everywhere. The accused gave his gold chain and motorcycle keys as security to the merchant, promising to arrange for the value of the diamonds. But the merchant returned the keys.
The merchant said the accused tried to lodge a false case against him later. He promised to return the diamonds, but failed after which a complaint was lodged.
