MUMBAI: An adjudication authority had recently confirmed provisional attachment of properties of NCP leader and former minister Nawab Malik and his kin. It includes premises of Goawala Compound and three flats at Kurla west, two flats at Bandra west and 147 acres of agricultural land in Osmanabad district. ED officials are in discussion with their legal team about taking possession of the properties.

ED had arrested Malik in February in a money laundering case connected with gangster Dawood Ibrahim's late sister Haseena Parkar. Subsequently in April, the ED had provisionally attached the Malik family's properties. The adjudication authority has confirmed the attachment. These properties are associated with Nawab Malik, his family members, Solidus Investments Pvt Ltd and Malik Infrastructure.

Malik is in judicial custody and undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

ED has alleged that Haseena Parkar, along with her aide Salim Patel, a 1993 Bombay bomb blast convict named Sardar Khan and Nawab Malik took part in a criminal conspiracy to illegally grab three acres of prime land at Goawala Compound in Kurla which belonged to a woman named Munira Plumber. Plumber had issued a power of attorney in 1999 in favour of Salim Patel to negotiate and settle the issue of illegal encroachment on her land. Instead Patel aided Parkar to illegally occupy the Compound.

Patel is accused of misusing the power of attorney and on instruction from Haseena Parkar, selling the Goawala property to Malik's firm Solidus Investments Pvt Ltd. ED has alleged that Malik earned rent from the Goawala compound which he used to purchase five flats in Kurla and Bandra, and agricultural land in Osmanabad.
