MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate has attached a flat in Thane worth around Rs 50 lakh that belongs to Iqbal Kaskar's close associate Mumtaz Ezaz Shaikh in a money laundering case.

The ED had registered the laundering case against Pakistan-based gangster Dawood Ibrahim, his family and others. Iqbal Kaskar is the brother of Dawood.

In the case, the ED recently arrested NCP minister Nawab Malik for financial transactions with Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar more than two decades ago. Malik is in judicial custody.

The ED's laundering case is based on a case lodged by the NIA against the Dawood gang for spreading terror in India and an extortion FIR registered in 2018 against Iqbal Kaskar, Mumtaz Sheikh and Israr Ali Jamil Saiyad.

In the Thane case, Iqbal Kaskar threatened a builder, Suresh Mehta, after using Dawood's name for extortion. Kaskar and the other two accused managed to extort a flat from

Mehta

in Thane after threatening him. The flat was taken in the name of Mumtaz Shaikh. They also forced Mehta to issue four cheques totalling Rs 10 lakh in their names.

The accused had also extorted cash from Mehta.
