MUMBAI: A 23-year-old trailer driver was injured after he rammed into a stationary tempo on the Western Express Highway at Dahisar (E) on Thursday. The police said the trailer driver, Ajmal Mohammad Abrar Khan, will be arrested post his treatment. Khan has been booked on charges of rash and negligent driving.
The incident took place around 5 am when the north-bound trailer was passing by the Gokulanand junction on the highway.
"Khan's trailer was transporting steel rods used for construction purposes. The trailer rammed into a tempo carrying cement that had broken down . The tempo driver escaped unhurt," an official said.Khan was driving at a high speed and could not control the trailer. He is said to be in a critical condition. tnnHe rammed into the tempo from the rear. "The tempo had developed a flat tyre and had been put on a hydraulic jack. The tempo driver had taken all the necessary precautions," the official said.
Due to the impact of the collision, Khan's head banged against the window pane. He suffered serious injuries on his chin and left leg. On hearing the collission, passersby gathered at the spot and rushed Khan to the Bhagwati Hospital. He was later moved to the
Sion Hospital for treatment.
"Khan is in a critical condition. The trailer rammed into the tempo with such force that the front portion of the trailer and the rear portion of the tempo have been badly damaged," said an official.
