NEW DELHI: Maharashtra's chief electoral officer (CEO), S Chockalingam, urged citizens across the state to actively participate in the ongoing assembly elections, emphasizing the power of every single vote. Speaking to reporters after casting his vote on Wednesday, Chockalingam said, "Do not think that one vote will not make a difference. It can make a difference."
Polling began at 7am across 288 assembly constituencies, where the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is vying to retain power against a determined Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) combine.
Call for civic responsibilityChockalingam appealed to voters not to treat the election day as a holiday, emphasizing the importance of their participation. “Each and every vote is equally important for the state and the country. Make your vote count,” he said.
Several senior bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagarani, Mumbai City Collector Sanjay Yadav, and Mumbai Suburban District Collector Rajendra Kshirsagar, were among the early voters.
Highlighting the effort behind the elections, Chockalingam lauded the extensive preparations. Nearly five lakh state government employees and two lakh security personnel have been working for over a month to ensure smooth polling, he noted.
