Day after her release, don Karima Aapa held again

MUMBAI: Just a day after the don Karima Mujeeb Shah alias Karima Aapa (52) was released from the Byculla jail in the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) case on Saturday, the Pant Nagar police arrested her on Sunday for threatening a witness in an attempt-to-murder case.

She was among the 12 criminals released on Saturday and Sunday from various jails. An official circular asked the local police and the crime branch to keep an eye on them as they may again indulge in criminal activities.

Karima and her two accomplices, Hasina Shaikh and Aziz Shaikh, were arrested on Sunday on the complaints of Adil Shaikh, a Ghatkopar resident who is a witness in an attempt-to-murder case against Appaa. Shaikh alleged that Appaa along with her accomplices stopped him on a street in Ghatkopar East allegedly abused and threatened him with a knife, police said. The trio was produced before the Vikhroli metropolitan magistrate's court on Monday and remanded to a four-day police custody.
