Doctor booked for running unregistered hospital at Kandivali
MUMBAI: Kandivali Police registered an FIR against a doctor for running a hospital without registering it with the BMC as per norms. The case was lodged under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1949. An inspector with the BMC's R/South Ward lodged the police complaint.
According to the FIR, BMC inspector Ganesh Kadam is tasked with checking establishments such as hotels, hospitals, and crematoriums located within R/South Ward, including inspection of their licences. On June 13, Kadam was asked by the BMC health officer to inspect the licence of Sahayak Hospital in Kandivali.
Accordingly, Kadam visited the premises and met the doctor who has been running the establishment for a year. Kadam demanded to see the licence given to the establishment. The doctor told him that he hadn't registered the hospital with the BMC.
The FIR says that under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, it is mandatory for every hospital and nursing home in the city to be registered with the BMC. Kadam submitted a copy of his inspection report to Sahayak Hospital, according to the instructions of his superiors.
But two months later, the hospital was still not registered with the BMC. On August 6, Kadam lodged a police complaint against the doctor who runs the hospital.
