MUMBAI: Physically-challenged children from city schools were taken by the navy aboard a ferrycraft as a part of navy celebrations-2002. The navy, in its attempt, to bring the public closer to life at sea, on Friday took over 500 special children to sea so that they get a glimpse various warships and submarines.
The children were enthralled to see the decommissioned naval aircraft carrier Vikrant, now converted into a museum.

Commander Surinder Singh explained to the children the significance of each vessel that was present in the dockyard and that of coast guard ships, stationed there.
Major C. K. Singh, public relations officer ministry of defence said that besides special children the navy will also be organising trips for children from other schools and for senior citizens so that they could have a closer look at the life of seamen.
“We are concentrating on all the segments of society and trying to bring the comman man in closer contact with the navy’’, he said adding, that the functions will be held for almost a month. Various functions organised as part of the celebrations include a drawing competition and a naval exercise by seamen.The navy band will play at different parts of the city, Mr Singh added.
