MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a fresh FIR on Tuesday for further investigation in journalist J Dey murder case.
The CBI has decided to take over the investigation after extradition of fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan recently, who is a key accused in the Dey’s murder case.
Dey was gunned down in broad daylight by two sharpshooters on a motorbike who were allegedly Rajan's henchmen in June 2011.
The Mumbai police had filed a chargesheet against then absconding Rajan and his arrested men under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (Mcoca).
In last June, the special MCOCA court had framed charges against 10 accused, including scribe Jigna Vora, in the murder case. The charges are under sections of MCOCA, Indian Penal Code, besides other acts. All the accused have pleaded innocence. The court has charged the accused with being part of the underworld gang run by Rajan, besides hatching a conspiracy and killing Dey.
Meanwhile Rajan was extradited. Recently the court conducting Dey murder case trial had issued a production warrant asking to produce Rajan before the court on January 7.
