Mumbai: Following a transfer four months ago of the special judge presiding over the murder trial in the Sheena Bora case, the proceedings will resume "day-to-day" from Monday. On Friday, the newly assigned special CBI court judge, J P Darekar, informed the prosecution and the defence team that the trial in the case will resume on a daily basis from March 10, based on directions from the Bombay High Court.
Indrani Mukerjea, the alleged biological mother of Sheena, is the prime accused in the case, along with co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and Peter Mukerjea. Mukerjea's driver, Shyamwar Rai, a former co-accused, turned approver in the case—state witness.
The last proceeding was on October 23, 2024, before the transfer of special CBI judge S P Naik Nimbalkar. The prosecution case is that Sheena was allegedly strangled to death in a car by Indrani, Rai, and Khanna in April 2012, and her body was burnt and disposed of in a Raigad forest. Indrani and Khanna were arrested in August 2015 when the case came to light following Rai's arrest in an alleged arms case.
Indrani's ex-husband, Peter, was in England at the time of the alleged murder and was later made co-accused and arrested in November 2015.
All the accused are currently out on bail. The trial began in Feb 2017.
