The bungalow is located in Kashid Kopar Mandvi, just off the Western Express Highway. As it is a newly-built house, the main door is just a thin, fragile partition.
The victim, Rekha Choudhary (45), was sleeping in the bedroom with husband Kashinath (52) and grandson Parth. Around 1.30 am, 10 men aged between 20 and 25 years barged into the house after breaking the door.
The dacoits entered the bedroom and woke the two victims up, asking them to hand over their valuables. When Kashinath refused and tried to call his son, Santosh, the accused hit him with bamboo sticks on his head.
Rekha sustained injuries to her arms while trying to save her husband. The dacoits spared Parth.
"The dacoits took Rekha's jewellery, including her mangalsutra and a ring. They also took a gold chain tied around the child's neck,'' said investigating officer T B More.

After the couple informed Santosh of the matter, the latter (who stays in another house in Virar) arrived at the bungalow with the local police and rushed his parents to hospital.
The police registered an FIR at 4.30 am under Sections 395, 397, 452 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code.
