JALGAON: The cyber-savvy Chandrababu Naidu is now obsessed with another hi-tech idea—micro irrigation.
Mr Naidu, who heads the Central government’s task force on the subject, visited Jalgaon to inspect the manner in which micro-irrigation projects have been successfully implemented here.
He is also scheduled to visit Israel where 98 per cent of cultivated land is covered by micro-irrigation.
Micro or drip irrigation provides water and nutrients to the plant’s roots, drop by drop, through PVC pipes and a centrally controlled system.
Mr Naidu spent a day in Jalgaon studying various pioneering projects introduced by Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd and has invited Bhavarlal Jain, chairperson of the group, to Andhra Pradesh to start drip-irrigation manufacturing and consultancy projects there.
Mr Naidu proposes to bring a record 2.5 lakh acres in his home state under drip irrigation in a year.
