MUMBAI: Mumbai Customs uncovered nearly 3 kg of gold worth Rs 1.72 crore in five instances at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
"On March 14-15, Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs seized over 2.99 kg of gold valued at Rs 1.72 crore in five different cases," Mumbai Customs said in a post on X.
"Gold was found concealed in dates, body cavity, on the body of Pax," it added.
Additionally, they seized 4.22 kg of gold, mobile phones, and laptops valued at Rs 2.35 crore in eight cases from March 10-12 at Mumbai Airport.
The confiscated items included various gold jewelry, mobile phones like Samsung Galaxy and iPhones, and Dell laptops. These items were cleverly hidden in bags.
The authorities are diligently monitoring such smuggling activities to maintain airport security and prevent illegal imports.
