Court allows prosecution to drop charges against Abu Salem
MUMBAI: The Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court allowed the prosecution to drop the less serious charges against alleged terrorist Abu Salem in connection with the 1995 murder of builder Pradeep Jain.
On Wednesday the court had rejected the defence plea to drop the more serious charge of criminal conspiracy. The prosecution opposed the plea and said that the charges against him were grave. In 1995, the Andheri builder was gunned down after he allegedly refused to pay Rs 1 crore to Salem. He had offered Salem Rs 20 lakh, but the hit man wanted a cut in profits from a housing project.
The trial in the case is on with two other accused turning approvers. Salem is being tried for conspiracy under TADA.
