Mumbai: Bombay high court bench of Justices S J Kathawalla and Milind Jadhav accepted consent terms that set out a process to hold election for the posts of all seven trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (

BPP

) and directed Trustees to issue a public notice on January 15 -16.

They were given plenary jurisdiction over local community councils and members. Though the davar's powers diminished significantly during British rule, the British initially vested the Bombay Parsi Panchayat with many of the davar's powers. Regrettably, after a variety of challenges and accusations of favouritism, the powers of the davar and panchayats were reduced to informal roles and that of charitable institutions respectively. This was the time when Parsi communlty's oldest constitutional organization - Surat Parsi Panchayat was came under illegal captivity of Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy and his family members. A settlement deed made between Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy family and Surat's Parsi leaders in 1841 is being misused under deduced Trust deed of Parsee Surat Charity Funds to govern Surat's Parsi Panchayat and Properties Funds including all the other public Trusts associated with it. Isn't it sad that Surat's Parsi communlty has no right to elect or select their Trustees at Surat Parsi Panchayat ? Trustees at Surat Parsi Panchayat are being appointed under fake Trust deed of Parsee Surat Charity Funds headed by Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy. This results in colonialism, imperialism and nepotism in all the philanthropic Institutes at Surat Parsi Panchayat. Institutes became defunct, lands and properties of Surat's Parsi communlty's Trusts Funds are illegally encroached and corruption, financial malpractices became parts of SPP administration. India is an independent democratic nation with its Constitution as a great tradition of millenia. Is it fair that Surat's Parsi Panchayat is run by one family, generation after generation ? How can Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy and his Cotrustees at Parsee Surat Charity Funds (Mumbai) who have lost their democratic character under deduced and fake Trust deed, protect democracy in Surat's Parsi communlty ? We Surat's Parsi communlty need support from all the citizens of democratic India to remove "colonial mindset” in Surat's Parsi Panchayat and request them to help us in preserving our democratic right to elect our Trustees at Surat Parsi Panchayat.
