KALYAN:
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) councilors on Friday threw garbage on engineers and other civic officials at Kalyan Dombivili Municipal Corporation head quarters because they did not fill up potholes, clean nullah and not strengthened roads.
Later, KDMC officers and employees went on a 'Pen Down' protest. Whole day, all ongoing operations and regular official works were stopped as part of this protest.
The civic body has registered a complaint against MNS leader in the local police station.
MNS councilors and party workers entered the KDMC office and threw garbage in the cabins of various officials and manhandled various officials. MNS councilors said KDMC administration is not efficient to carry out any work. In the name of development, civic body has created a mess by digging city roads under the name of development and local people are suffering.
"KDMC is carrying out several projects in its jurisdiction under Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewal Mission, for the same, they have dug various roads. The deadline was by mid-May but now it is May 30. However, there is hardly any chance that KDMC will strengthen these roads," said Irfan Shaikh, secretary, MNS Kalyan.
"Monsoon is approaching and still several nullahs are yet to clean in the city. If this work is not done in time it will create a flood like situation in the city", said Rajesh Kadam, another MNS leader.
Besides, civic body is partial in supplying water to city, as some parts of city get sufficient water and some don't.
KDMC Mayor, Vaijyanti Gholap, said MNS cannot take law into their hands. She blamed municipal commissioner Sanjay Gharat who holds additional charge for delay in the ongoing work.
Bazarpeth police has registered a case against 20 MNS workers including two councilors.
