MUMBAI: In a fresh development in the suicide case involving actor Navin Nischol's wife Geetanjali, the Mahim police on Monday searched the deceased Geetanjali's house in Mahim. Police also questioned Geetanjali's first husband Ashok Paanwala, who is a resident of Prabhadevi, and Navin's first wife Neelima, who stays in Pali Hill, Bandra in a flat gifted to her by Navin during the days he was doing well in Hindi films.
Geetanjali, Navin's second wife, committed suicide last week by hanging herself in her Mahim flat. Her suicide note held Navin and his brother Praveen responsible for her action. She stated that she was tired of her husband's alcoholism, harassment and mental torture. She also accused Praveen of instigating Navin to try and divorce her.
Two close friends of Navin and Geetanjali were also questioned by the police in a bid to corroborate claims made in her suicide note. Navin and his younger brother Praveen have been booked under sections of the penal code pertaining to cruelty to spouse and abetting suicide and have been remanded to police custody till May 6. During interrogation, Navin told police that he married Neelima in 1978, but due to differences they parted amicably in the 1980s. Neelima has two daughters from him. In 1991, Navin met Geetanjali and she amicably divorced Paanwala to marry Navin. Police have learnt that the Mahim flat in Moghul Lane was gifted to Geetanjali by Paanwala. After Navin and Geetanjali were allegedly thrown out of their Khar home by Praveen, the couple moved into the Mahim flat.
