MUMBAI: The Bhoiwada police, along with its counterparts in
Uttar Pradesh, have rescued a one-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by his relative from Naigaon in Bhoiwada on June 29. Accused
Javed Khan (22) said he was fond of his uncle’s son Rehan Shaikh and wanted to bring him
up in UP, which drove him to plan the kidnap. “Khan said his intention was not to harm the boy and that he just wanted to take care of him.
But we are unconvinced,” said police.
The boy was rescued after the Bhoiwada police got support from the Sikriganj police sub-inspector Sujjauddin at Gorakhpur who laid a trap at Khan’s Gorakhpur home on July 2.
On Wednesday, the team comprising sub-inspector DB Ingale and two constables reached Mumbai and reunited the kidnapped boy with his parents and produced Khan before the Bhoiwada court. “The UP police helped us nab the accused,” said ACP (Bhoiwada) RB Poman.
On June 29, the accused reached Mumbai and visited his uncle Salim Shaikh’s Sai Krupa slums in Naigaon. The victim is Shaikh’s youngest child. “Around 8am, Khan (nephew) stepped into our hut. He said he came to Mumbai to search for a job. We didn’t doubt his intention. A few minutes after his arrival, he took my child outside,” the victim’s father Salim said.
Around 11am, Salim asked his wife Saira where Rehan was. “There was no trace of Khan and our child. We searched till evening and then a lodged a complaint against Khan,” said Saira.
A wireless message was sent and all trains that left Kurla Terminus were checked. “Khan travelled in Kamayani Express in the afternoon on June 29. He boarded the general compartment and kept the boy hidden under the seat. Cops who checked the compartment did not notice the boy. And Khan got down two stations before the train reached Gorakhpur,” a police official said.
