MUMBAI: Police officers with six months left for retirement were keen on getting a posting in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district, said home minister
R R Patil.
Replying to supplementaries on vacant police posts in Gadchiroli during question hour in the legislative council on Monday, Patil said new recruits were unwilling to be posted in the Naxal-dominated area.
“However, since those posted in Gadchiroli are entitled to a special pay, those on the verge of retirement seek a posting there. This is because the last salary drawn becomes the basis for calculating pension,” he said.
Patil said another problem faced was that those who voluntarily accepted a posting in Gadchiroli were not relieved for as much as eight years. “We have now asked the chief secretary that these officers get a posting of their choice,” he said.
