A constable, who was sent to help an injured commuter, was himself knocked down by a local train and later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
SM Dombavde (pictured), a constable with the Government Railway Police (GRP), was posted at Mumbra railway station on Wednesday morning when he was asked to help an injured victim lying between Mumbra and Diva. Dombave, along with four potters, rushed to the site where the injured victim was lying. An official from the GRP said, "The site was a mid-section and Dombave reached the spot where he saw the injured person lying. The very moment when he was going to help the injured person, two locals simultaneous arrived on the up line and down lines."
Dombave was hit by the local moving on the up line and sustained injuries to his head. The potters rushed Dombave as well as the injured victim to Thane railway station. Dombave was rushed to Thane Civil Hospital shortly after, where he was declared dead on arrival.
