Coordination for safety at sea: Deora

Mumbai: Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora on Friday has requested chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for coordinated efforts to ensure maritime safety in the Mumbai harbour in the wake of Wednesday's fatal ferry accident, which claimed 14 lives.
Deora has urged the CM to convene a high-level meeting with all key stakeholders to deliberate on the major issues for the safety of catamaran passengers, especially in view of the massive growth in maritime traffic due to increased passenger services, cargo movement and recreational activities. This growth, though, has brought with it challenges related to safety, regulation and enforcement. "We need to address these issues through coordinated efforts, involving state and central agencies," Deora said.
Suggestions made by Deora assume significant importance, since a few years ago, he was union minister of state for shipping.
"I will be happy to assist in facilitating the process," Deora said.
