Contractor writes to PMO about ‘bribe demand’ by civic staff in Mumbai

AMBERNATH:Angry at not being paid his dues for not paying a

bribe

, a civil work contractor of the civic body in Ambernath dashed off a complaint letter to the Prime Minister’s Office and the civic chief. The chief executive of Ambernath Municipal Council has directed that a probe be conducted against the municipal employee.


The contractor, Ajay Jadhav, had taken up work for several roads in Ambernath for which Rs was to be paid Rs 8.5 lakh was due. Jadhav’s complaint states that the accounts chief, Kiran

Kolambe

, had been holding up the payment though it was approved by civic chief Devidas Pawar.

Jadhav told TOI, “I asked Kolambe to release the payment, but he demanded a bribe. He said he needed money to go on a pilgrimage to the Tirupati temple.”

When Kolambe learnt that Jadhav had complained to the big chief, “he at once remitted the funds into my account”, said Jadhav. “Despite that, I wrote to the Prime Minister’s office as Kolambe is a habitual bribe-seeker.”

The municipal chief said has ordered an inquiry. “Action will be taken depending on the finding.”

Jadhav also plans to write to the chief minister.
