Congress stages unique protest against inflation in Maharashtra's Kalyan; Navin Singh rides horse and distributes chocolates
KALYAN: In a unique protest against rising fuel prices and inflation, the Kalyan District Congress took out a demonstration highlighting the increasing burden of rising costs on common citizens. The protest was led by District Congress president Navin Singh, who rode a horse from Kalyan railway station to the tehsildar’s office while distributing Melody chocolates to the public.
Congress leaders said the symbolic gesture was aimed at drawing attention to the sharp rise in the prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities. Party workers alleged that while inflation continues to affect household budgets, the government has failed to provide relief to the common man.
The protest march, which passed through key areas of the city, culminated at the tehsildar’s office where Congress workers raised slogans against the Centre and submitted a memorandum demanding measures to curb inflation.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Singh claimed that soaring fuel prices had triggered a chain reaction, pushing up transportation costs and increasing the prices of daily necessities. He alleged that the government had failed to effectively tackle inflation and urged authorities to reduce taxes on petrol and diesel to provide immediate relief to citizens.
A large number of Congress office-bearers and party workers participated in the agitation. Among those present were Iftikhar Khan, Azam Sheikh, Dharmendra Pandey and Shakeel Sheikh, along with several women workers.
