Complete FYJC admission process soon, colleges urge govt

Mumbai: As First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions continue, colleges are asking the state to finish the process so that they can plan their first term exams.
A special sixth round of admissions has been announced by the state beginning Wednesday. After admissions for this round are completed on Sept 25, a Daily Merit Round (DMR) will be conducted for students still without seats. Admissions began in June and around 29,000 registered students have still not taken admission.
While top-rung colleges have filled their seats, others still have vacancies, despite having surrendered their quota — in-house, management, and minority — seats. Education officials expect to conduct DMRs till next month, before deciding on ending the admission process.
So far, 90% of the registered students have been admitted to colleges. It includes 1.43 lakh in commerce, followed by 98,000 in science and 25,000 in arts. In the ongoing process, it is compulsory for students who have been allotted seats to take admissions. College heads said as long as the admission process continues, students will keep applying.
Last year, 10 rounds of admissions were undertaken till the end of Oct.
