The murder of a 96-year-old man at his Madanpura residence last week most likely involved someone known to the nonagenarian and will be cracked in a day or two, said the police on Monday.

MUMBAI: The murder of a 96-year-old man at his Madanpura residence last week most likely involved someone known to the nonagenarian and will be cracked in a day or two, said the police on Monday.
Abdul Hameed Ansari was found dead in his room on Saturday morning by his grandson, Wahid, when he came to deliver breakfast. The police said Ansari was suffocated.

“The killer had tried to open the cupboard using a screwdriver,” a police officer said. “The keys of the cupboard were hanging in a corner, behind the yearly calendar. The killer could not see the keys and in a hurry tried to use the screwdriver.”The cupboard did not yield and the police found Rs 6.52 lakh untouched in it.
The killer used a handkerchief to suffocate Ansari, who lived on his own in his room in Yaqoob Manzil in Madanpura, a Nagapada neighbourhood.
“We are trying to get the information about the call data records of Ansari’s five missing phones,” a police officer said.Investigators said they were recording statements of the people Ansari met daily.
