City family’s dream of first flight crashes in Jet turbulence

Mumbai: Unaware of the turbulence that Jet Airways was in, Madan Lal Mali, a shopkeeper from Mumbai, bought five tickets on a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight for his family on April 10, to give them a taste of air travel.

However, when Mali reached Terminal 2 of

Mumbai airport

with his wife and three children in the wee hours of Thursday, they had to return home with a bitter taste. The 4 am Jet flight was cancelled, but the the Malis didn’t know about it.

“Had I known earlier, we could have taken the train,” he rued. The family was bound for their hometown in Pali, Rajasthan, and the second leg of their journey was to be on an AC bus from Ahmedabad. “I will miss that bus, lose that money too,” he said, as his children looked on disappointingly. “I would have not booked the AC bus tickets... I won't get a refund there,” he added. —Manju V
