MUMBAI: Businessmen of the Thane-Kalyan belt and also parts of Mumbai heaved a sigh of relief following the killing of notorious gangster Suresh Manchekar in a so-called police encounter. Assistant inspector Ravindra Angre and his team killed Manchakar in Kolhapur on August 15.
Mr Angre said" this was his `independence day gift to the people. Manchekar, a former associate of NRI don Guru Satam, specialised in extortions.
builders, quarry owners and even successful professionals like doctors were his target". For the past five years the police have been on the look for him, but he proved to be elusive.
