‘Cheater’ advocate held in Jalandhar

MUMBAI: An advocate, who was on the run since Januray after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by the Bombay high court in a cheating case, has been arrested in Jalandhar. Police have got the transit remand of advocate Rajiv Bhatia, the Colaba police said on Tuesday.
The arrest comes after a series of orders by Justice S J Kathawalla in a suit filed in 2014 by Brij Estate Agency against Prarthana Builders and others.

Lawyer for the estate agency Advocate Pratik Kothari said his clients Akshay Sheth and Aanchal Sheth had first engaged the services of Bhatia who charged them Rs 1.26 lakh as court fees and asked them to open an escr-ow account and deposit Rs 5 lakh each. Later, they were shocked to learn that the suit had been dismissed for non-payment of court fees.
