MUMBAI : The Central Railway's RPF has successfully reunited 861 children with their families through "Operation Nanhe Farishte" during the period of April 1 to October 31.
"The Railway Protection Force performs essential duties in protecting railway assets, passenger zones and travellers.
They also follow guidelines set by the Ministry of Railways' Standardised Operating Procedure for rescued children and work alongside various stakeholders in child rescue missions under "Operation Nanhe Farishte", said CR chief spokesperson Swapnil Nila.
Between April 1 and October 31, RPF team successfully located and reconnected 861 children, comprising 589 boys and 272 girls, with their respective families, he added.
On November 7, 2024, during their patrol at Khandwa station, RPF officers Ishwar Chand Jat and R K Tripathi noticed a young boy sitting quietly on platform 4/5. Upon counselling, they discovered the boy, Sumit, had a mobile number tattooed on his right arm. When contacted, his brother revealed Sumit's condition of amnesia. Following a medical check-up, the child was placed in Navjeevan Balgrih's care with assistance from ChildLine representatives, pending his brother's arrival.
