Cat murdered in Mumbai residential building

MUMBAI: An incident occurred in a residential building in Jogeshwari (West) on June 13 when a four-year-old cat was killed and found in a parking space allotted to a fourth-floor resident. The Oshiwara police have registered a case against an unknown individual after a complaint was filed by 31-year-old documentary filmmaker SK Vandit on Thursday.

Vandit, in his complaint, revealed, "The building resident suspected the cat was killed by a resident from the building who was against people feeding. The person even threatened on the building WhatsApp group to call pest control to get rid of the cats that loiters around in the building premise and litter on the seventh floor where he stays."

Vandit became aware of the cat's death when the building guard, Shashikant Pathak, contacted him at 6:20 am on June 13. Pathak informed Vandit that the cat was found in a pool of blood in the parking area, with its teeth broken.

The Oshiwara police are currently investigating the case and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprit. A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code section 428 for killing or maiming an animal, and also under provisions related to cruelty against animals.
